Secondary School Business Plan Competition

How To Participate:

Spencer Crowe won 1st place in the Lanark-North Leeds High School Business Plan Competition '09. His business was called "Perth Power Washing Service".

 

 

                    Contact the Enterprise Centre

    • Complete a Form of Intent, available at the Enterprise Centre
    • Complete your "Form of Intent" and return it to the Lanark-North Leeds Enterprise Centre
    • Complete required sections of the Business Plan.
    • Ask your teachers or our business consultant if you require any assistance!
    • Drop off, mail or email completed business plan to Lanark-North Leeds Enterprise Centre.
    • Top Business Plan will be awarded a prize.

Admission Requirements:                       

    • Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a Secondary School in Ontario or equivalent (i.e. alternative schools, home schooled, etc.)
    • Applicants who are doing High School Equivalency (i.e. returning “mature” students” and/or are enrolled by correspondence are ineligible to enter the BPC.
    • There is no age restriction on the entrants as long as they are enrolled full-time in a secondary school. 
    • Applicants are able to use the same plan for Summer Company as for the BPC and vice-versa.
    • Students, who have placed Regionally or Provincially, cannot in the subsequent year apply to the Business Plan Competition.
    • All plans must involve a business idea that is original and based on the independent thinking of the applicant(s). Duplicating or copying an already existing/recognized business or franchise will not be allowed
    • At the local, regional and provincial level, the judges' decision is final.
    • Unless the student has won locally, they can't advance to the regional/provincial judging round.
    • Group submissions are limited to three students per plan
    • Students who have submitted a non-winning plan previously, may revise the plan and resubmit it. The plan cannot have placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the local competition.

Judging Criteria for the Youth Business Plan Competition:

    • Title Page
    • Table of Contents
    • Executive Summary
    • Business Overview (type of business, industry profile, products/services, key personnel, operations)
    • Marketing Research (primary, secondary, competitive analysis, SWOT analysis)
    • Marketing Plan (4P, product, price, place, promotion)
    • Financial Plan (budget, cash flow)
    • Overall impression (creativity, presentation, overall content, etc.)

The Secondary School Business Plan Competition has been discontinued.

The Awards Banquet for the Regional/Provincial Competition was held

November 7th, 2009 at at Trent University in Peterborough.
